Help isolating thumb?

I'm taking glucosamine sulfate and msm in order to try and heal some problems with my thumbs, but apparently it will take 2-3 months. I am currently using medical tape to wrap my thumb to my hand, and I was wondering if there was a more effective way to keep my thumb out of the way for a few months?
